Church Walk

Honor God, Love Life, Together

Welcome to your neighborhood church.  We are a group of neighbors who love God, His Church and all people. Our mission is to please God and know Him better as a  community of faith. We are trying hard to keep things simple, biblical and meaningful.  We like friends, family, fresh air and fun. We'd love you to walk with us.

About Church Walk

Honor God, Love Life, Together. That's more then just a trendy tagline, it's our DNA at Church Walk.

Things are a bit different around here. We meet primarily at local public parks (that means you can bring your dog!).  Our services are interactive, everyone is involved.  At Church Walk you don't "go to" church, you are the church.

We believe that God desires His people to be thankful, love life and live victoriously.  We are prayerfully building a strong community of family, neighborhood and world changers empowered by God. We want to support, motivate and encourage one another to good works both inside and outside of the church.

If you are looking for a Gospel believing God honoring church, you're cool interacting with your neighbors and you like the outdoors, then you'll probably like it here.  We'd love to have you walk with us.

What to expect at church

Learn, Read, Discuss, Brag, Have Fun.

Services are focused around learning the key attributes of God. We confirm those attributes by reading Scripture, while we walk our parks and neighborhoods, together.

Step #1 Learn a Key Attribute

We meet at a Neighborhood park.  Once there we gather around to learn about one of 52 key attributes of God, together (an attribute for each week of the year). After the weekly attribute is taught we then read 5-10 minutes of Scripture as a group. This is lead by our Pastor and typically last around 15 minutes in total.

Our goal is to read the entire bible together as a group about every 7 years.

Step #2 Read & Discuss Scripture

When the weeks key attribute has been taught and the weeks Scripture has been read we break up into small walking groups facilitated by a church Elder. Those groups literally go for a walk around the park or neighborhood together. The weeks Scripture is then broken down into a few sections which are each mined for truths about God by the group.  We focus on tying the Scripture reading to the 52 core catechism truths about God.

Elders facilitate a Socratic style conversation keeping everyone engaged. This keeps us focused, helps everyone to learn how to study Scripture and grows us all in the knowledge of God together.

This is the primary part of our church service and typically last for about 20-30 minutes in total. Group size is kept to under 10 adults.  Kids walk with their parents, strollers and dog's are welcomed. Fear not, if you can't or don't want to walk there is always a group that stays at the park.

Step #3 Brag on God

This is the final step of our walk.  It's where we discuss our lives and brag on God.  It's the time to tell our groups collective testimony for the past week.  We give thanks to God, celebrate and encourage one another.  This phase typically last about 10-15 minutes and brings us back to the park where we started.

Step #4 Have Some Fun

During this time we take communion together.  Worship music is played, people sing, BBQ is enjoyed, kids run wild at the playground, corn-hole is played and people are free to hangout, Honor God, Love Life, Together.

How We Operate

Keeping it Simple, Keeping it Small.

Church Walk is made up of Pastors, Elders, Deacons and Congregants.

Our congregation is close knit because we are literally neighbors. Everyone is involved in service at Church Walk.  We are lead by neighbors  fulfilling the roles of volunteer pastor, elders and deacons.  Our pastors, elders and deacons are raised up organically within the church through biblical discipleship. Every person is equipped and invited to contribute at Church Walk from day one.

Pastor

Coach

Oversees the overall health of the church, equips the elders and holds them accountable to the foundation truths taught in the catechism and underlying processes that drive Church Walk. The Pastor also leads the group catechism teaching time.

Elders

Team Leaders

Lead the the Scripture reading times. They study the Catechism and the Scriptures to equip themselves to facilitate the Scripture walks. Elders also pray for, engage, encourage and help equip the congregation to live out their faith confidently.

Deacons

Organizers

Lead and manage and generally organize the service aspects of our gatherings.  They do the hard work to keep our gatherings organized and enjoyable.

Congregation

Neighbors

We are all part of the Congregation.  We are the hands and feet of God in our families, neighborhood, work places and broader communities.

Objectives:

At Church walk we want to make sure everyone feels welcomed to contribute and be an integral part of the church.  Leaders are raised within the church.  We never want to get too big.  We encourage a ratio of about 1 Pastor to 12 Elders.  Each Elder leads about 10 adults.  Because of this our church should never be more then about 150 people with kids included.  Rather then grow too big we want to multiply our impact at new parks in our communities; planting new Church Walk churches lead by Elders moving into Pastor roles.  This keeps our church's deeply relational and sustainable, promoting a multiplication model, bringing the Church and the Gospel to new communities.

Church Walk Toolbox

We've archived the key tools we use at Church Walk here for easy access.

Available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, The New City Catechism mobile app makes it easy to take all 52 questions and answers with you wherever you go.
The free app pairs each question and answer with a Scripture reading from the ESV, a short prayer, and a devotional commentary written by contemporary pastors, including John Piper, Timothy Keller, and Kevin DeYoung, and historical figures, such as Augustine, John Calvin, Martin Luther, and many others.
The app also includes kid-friendly songs designed to help children memorize the entire catechism.

Ministries that have Shaped us.

At church walk we have no desire to reinvent the wheel.  We also want to give credit where credit is due.  We have leaned heavily on existing ministries when putting together the DNA of our Church Walk.  Two of the primary ministries we've leaned on are the "We Are Church" ministry lead by Francis Chan and the "New City Catechism" developed and created by Timothy Keller.  Below are links that will take you to each ministries respective websites for your review.

Rethinking Church

Haven't you always been a bit confused about Church?  You read about the unstoppable power, miraculous love, and outrageous sacrifice of the first church.  Then you wonder if it is even possible for the church today.
We believe it is not only possible, but it is promised and commanded.
Our desire is to passionately pursue what God wants in a church to get as close to that vision as possible.

Structured Learning

The New City Catechism is a modern-day resource aimed at helping children and adults alike learn the core doctrines of the Christian faith via 52 questions and answers.
